The city of Birmingham, Alabama has an unsung history of Jazz music. Top level music education produced many jazz musicians who were proficient players and readers. Many of the great Big Band Jazz outfits fronted by legends such as Duke Ellington, Louis Armstrong and Count Basie relied on this talent that came out of Birmingham.
