You say you play jazz? That's a serious statement. Jose Carr

Daniel ‘José’ Carr was born in Birmingham, Alabama. His parents were Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Carr Sr. Jose went to the now closed Councill Elementary and then went to P.D. Jackson Olin High School in Birmingham, AL. Mr. Carr holds a B.M.E. and an M.Ed from Alabama State University and continued in Jazz studies at North Texas State University. He attended further education courses at the University of Montevallo. Jose claims that he learned more from the many skilled Birmingham Jazz musicians than anyone and says he considers those years as equivalent to a Jazz degree from ‘Street University’.

He has taught at Calloway Patterson Moore Elementary, Bush Middle School where he taught for eleven years, earned the Bush Middle School Teacher of the Year award and also taught at Jackson Olin High for nine years. Jose has served on Board of Trustees Birmingham Youth Jazz Ensemble under the direction of Jothan Callins.  In 2015 he was inducted into the Alabama Jazz Hall of Fame and also taught there between 2017 and 2018 until its closure for renovations. In 1980 he started hosting Jam Sessions and continues to do so until this day.
